WHAT WE BELIEVE

The doctrine that shapes our Christian community is founded on the Bible. We believe that our understanding of God influences how we think, act, and respond to the world around us. (Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Timothy 4:6; 6:3; Titus 1:9)

This page serves as an introduction to our core beliefs. While it is not exhaustive, it reflects the heart of our church and our commitment to the teachings of the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:14-17)

 A Posture of Humility

As followers of Jesus, it is essential to connect our minds, hearts, and attitudes of humility when engaging with theology and our relationships with others. "Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up." (1 Corinthians 8:1)

We approach Scripture with humility, asking God to open the eyes of our hearts so that we may understand the hope to which He has called us. (Ephesians 1:18)

 Creeds

The Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed serve as historical affirmations of our faith. These creeds, written by the Early Church, outline essential Christian beliefs. The term "catholic" in these creeds refers to "the true Christian church of all times and all places." (Full texts of the creeds can be found at the end of this document.)

CORE BELIEFS

The Church

We believe that the Church is made up of all people who put their faith in Jesus, regardless of location. The Church is empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry out God's mission on earth. While the Church is a global community, it is also expressed in local gatherings, each with unique characteristics. We believe that the Church exists not for itself, but as a community of worshipers called to serve others as Jesus taught. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 2:1-47; Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:11-13; 5:25-30; 1 Corinthians 12:27)

The Ordinances of the Church

Baptism in Water: We believe that water baptism is a biblical command for all who repent and believe in Christ. Through baptism, believers publicly declare their union with Christ in His death and resurrection. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:4)

Holy Communion: The Lord’s Supper, consisting of bread and the fruit of the vine, symbolizes our sharing in the divine nature of Jesus Christ. It serves as a memorial of His suffering and death and a proclamation of His return. (2 Peter 1:4; 1 Corinthians 11:26)

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is authoritative and serves as the foundation for our faith and daily living. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12-13; Psalm 19:7-11; 119:105)

God

We believe in one eternal God who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and infinitely good. God exists eternally as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26-27; Deuteronomy 6:4; Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:8; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

Jesus Christ

Jesus is the exact representation of God’s nature. He was born of the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, died as a sacrifice for our sins, and rose again. Through faith in Him, we are forgiven and reconciled to God. Jesus ascended to heaven and will one day return to establish justice and restore creation. (Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:14; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 5:8-10; Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:3)

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit dwells in all who trust in Jesus, teaching, comforting, convicting, and empowering believers. Through the Spirit, we are equipped with gifts to serve the Church and the world. (John 16:8-11; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18)

Salvation

All people are created in God’s image with dignity and value. However, sin separates us from God. Jesus’ death and resurrection provide the way for reconciliation with God. By faith in Christ, we receive forgiveness and new life. (Ephesians 2:8-10; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; Romans 3:22-26; 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 15:1-7)

Marriage, Singleness, and Sexuality

We adhere to the biblical teachings regarding sexuality and marriage. "So God created mankind in His own image... male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:27) We honor and support both marriage and singleness, recognizing the unique gifts each person brings to the Church.

The Return of Christ

While there are various views on the end times, we hold to the core belief that Jesus will one day return for His Church. (Daniel 12:2; Matthew 24-25; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20-22)

Creation

We affirm that God is the Creator of all things. While interpretations of how and when creation occurred may differ, we believe that all creation exists for God’s purpose and glory. (Genesis 1-2; Colossians 1:15-17)

THE CREEDS

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended to hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

(*That is, the true Christian church of all times and places.)

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.
